How do payments, tipping and Wi-Fi work in China?
- Payments: mobile payment is the easiest option.
Payments: mobile payment is the easiest option. Set up WeChat Pay before departure by linking an international card; Alipay is a backup. Carry a physical credit card and a small amount of Chinese yuan.
Tipping: not customary in China. Gratuities for all guides and drivers in the program are already covered.
Wi-Fi: available at hotels and onboard, but sites such as Google and Instagram are restricted on local networks. International cellular data or an eSIM generally gives normal access; check roaming with your provider.
Electronics: China uses Type A, C and I plugs at 220V. Bring a universal adapter, and a voltage converter for devices not rated for 220V.
